The " desperation " never stops , even after ABC TV apologizes. The sensibility of Filipinos ( not just doctors ) was definitely hurt and some has been quite quick in reacting to the controversy. Interestingly, there is a subset of Filipino MDs (whether locally trained or abroad)who despite being obviously irked by the racial slur, has r emained steadfast on their firm belief, that they are not in anyway affected by the name calling (for one reason or another. Instead they urged their kapwa Pinoy MDs to just let the controversy die a natural death by ignoring the issue and concentrate on their competent patient care. And some of these Filipino MD got the ire of some Filipinos because of their differences in opinions regarding the issue. And this is really sad.
I must agree with some of these MDs. That while I felt offended by the poorly crafted joke, it will not in any way affect my professional competence and dignity as a Filipino MD . In fact, it will give me more reason to strive harder in giving the best medical care for my patients! Furthermore, I can not waste any time to this pointless nit picking and personal attacks. Come on, let the controversy die!
