Like much of the west, our little part of the world has been very hot lately and today we may approach 100 degrees. Perhaps it's the area's logging and farming roots, but the topic of the weather seems to be an obsession compared to larger cities in the northwest. Lately this translates into having the same conversation twenty to twenty five times a day.
I get the hourly update of what temperature it says on the sign at the local bank. The kids tell me about playing in their blow up swimming pool, sprinkler, or just turning the hose on themselves. Older patients tell me it's the
hottest day since 19--. I, of course, remind people to stay cool and drink lots of water.
It's times like these when small town life does seem simple. The problems of drug use, broken families, and poverty seem to be put aside for a few days. The clerk at the liquor store next door to our office even brought in some
Popsicles for all of us. You just don't get more rural America than that.
So stay cool and drink lots of water.
