1. We're sometimes asked where we get the data we use in our carbon calculators.
2.
Brazil recently launched a Greenhouse Gas Protocol Program, "a voluntary registry of corporate GHG emissions in which participants will log their annual inventories and will receive training on GHG accounting and management."
What do these two statements have in common? Both Carbonfund.org's calculators and Brazil's new program are based on data from the
GHG Protocol.
The GHG Protocol, created by the
World Resources Institute(WRI) and the
World Business Council for Sustainable Development(WBCSD), is an international accounting tool for government and business leaders to understand, quantify, and manage greenhouse gas emissions. Brazil's program will use its accounting methods to track the emissions of sixteen major corporations. We use its data for the emissions factors in our air travel calculator.
Of course, calculators and registries are only as good as the data they use. We work hard to find the best data available, so it's good to see the article declare the GHG Protocol "the global standard for accounting of GHG emissions." We wouldn't want to use anything less.
Carbonfund.org makes it easy and affordable for any individual or business to reduce their carbon footprint to zero. www.carbonfund.org
