I recently became a founding member of the new HealthCare Technology Forum (HTF), which is a virtual space where people involved in health IT, from around the world, can meet and communicate via blogs and forum discussions. HTF's purpose is to promote international social networking among professionals, academics, students and others involved in the health IT and informatics.
At this link on HTF, I just posted an article, titled "Dueling Data Formats," in which I discuss the relative benefits of XML (extensible markup language) and CSV (comma separated value) data structures. These structures provide a framework for giving data meaning (semantics) and for presenting (rendering) the data in reports.
In it, I describe and evaluate the two data structures, and expalin how a novel method disrupts the current day mind set that XML is the best for all situations. I use examples of actual continuity of care documents (CCDs) and records (CCRs) to make my case.
I tried to make this technical paper understandable to the non-techie.
