T his issue regarding cleaning products in healthcare organizations and the effects on staff members is real. Nurses, ancillary staff, and other support staff can have serious reactions to some of the cleaning agents used in hospitals today. Patients as well may be exposed and have significant respiratory reactions. Consequences for staff members can be great. Loss of work time, income loss, long term illness and disability can occur. On the institution side this effects patient safety and workman's compensation. Clearly with these types of dangerous cleaning agents and the potential hazards that exist healthcare organizations should be looking at more eco-friendly solutions for cleaning.
