Personal Health Advisors - Healthcare for the privileged.

Posted Dec 23 2008 9:14pm

The world is full of those who have and most of us who have not. Privileged and common, the byproducts of capitalism where there is a foundation of greed that serves to motivate. For some time as the business side of healthcare as reared its head above the sand to show just how ugly it is the factions of this county's healthcare system have been engaged in what amounts to a bar room brawl about regulations, reimbursement rates, and access to care.

I suspect there are a few folks out there that still believe healthcare is a right of the American people. This article from the Boston Globe about personal health advisors should change your mind. Medical advisors such as the company PinnacleCare that charge an initiation fee for families of $10,000 and upwards of an annual fee of $100,000.00 are serving those more fortunate people like the 20 billionaires that belong to PinnacleCare . These advisors grease the wheels if you will for affluent patients to obtain the best care possible. This is very similar in many ways to the concepts found in concierge medicine in which money talks loud and clear.

Healthcare after reading this is clearly for those who can afford it. It may seem like a great market strategy for well connected healthcare systems to exploit to improve their fiscal standing, but I wonder about the ethics and the perception that us common patients might have.
