Even though the summer is essentially half over there is still plenty of time for friends to gather, pull a few corks from bottles, open a few beers, or even pour a few mixed drinks. We intend to blow off some steam, enjoy the warm weather and the long days. No one every plans for disaster to hit or bad things to happen. However when we don't make good decisions or we ignore what we know is right, or the people we are with let us do things that they know we shouldn't, then bad things happen, people get hurt, and sometimes people die.
With respect to healthcare the cost of dealing with society's bad judgments is difficult to measure because the cost is so high. The photos here are of one young patient who made a bad choice to drink and drive. You don't have to work in healthcare, or be an MD or even a radiologist to see that the human skull doesn't look like this ever. Oh, those little pieces you see, that is bone. The bad choices that this patient made ended their life before they even reached 25 years old. You need proof that drinking and driving is expensive, dangerous, and stupid, here it is:
