Benefits of Saffron

Posted Mar 10 2009 3:36pm

Commonly referred to as kesar, saffron is used mostly as a food addictive in culinary , bakery and confectionery preparations , on account of its colouring and aromatic properties. However , try avoiding in any dish containing too much of turmeric.

Add some saffron strands to marinades. It enriches the dish by spreading the aroma and flavor evenly through the vegetables , paneer or meat. Saffron , when added to mayonnaise , makes a very interesting condiment that you can use variously – spread on toast or serve with grilled vegetables and meats. Saffron , in a glass of white wine , gives it a very beautiful hue and enhances the flavor tremendously.

Did you know ? Half a kilogram of dry saffron requires the stigmas to 75000 flowers , equal to a football field area of cultivation and costs Rs 50,000 to Rs 5,00,000 on quality.
