Mocha Time...

Posted Jan 27 2009 8:20pm

Just for the record, it is currently Very Cold here. As in Much Too Cold, This is Supposed to Be the South, the Grass is Not Supposed to Crunch with Ice when I Walk Across the Lawn.

That kind of cold.

So I should be fixing soup. And, I probably will tonight. Definitely, we should be curling up with steaming cups of tea.

(Fritz and Ruby thoroughly advocate the merits of curling up on the couch)

As we curl up on the couch, though, what have we been pouring into our glasses instead of cozy tea or coffee? Iced mochas.

We discovered the art of creating a homemade iced mocha rather late in the season... Oh, I don't know, right around the beginning of November, two weeks ago... and, now that we've discovered this wondrously festive beverage, which makes settling down at our desks to study seem like An Occasion, we just don't want to relinquish the tradition.

So we keep fixing iced mochas, and I'm considering wearing gloves in the house. They're just that good.

Iced Mocha

6 cups brewed coffee (a nice dark roast is best)
2 cups low-fat milk or vanilla soymilk
2/3 cup cocoa powder (if you prefer an unsweetened version) OR 2/3 cup hot cocoa mix, such as Nestle's Nesquik (if you prefer a sweetened version)
Whipped cream OR "soy cream"

~ In a large bowl, whisk together the coffee, milk or soymilk, and cocoa powder or cocoa mix.
~ Set in the fridge to chill or serve over ice... Topped with whipped cream!
