Tips for buying a child car seat

Posted Jul 25 2009 11:14pm

If you are taking your baby anywhere by car, she must be in a car seat. It’s one of the most essential baby buys you’ll make. So, follow these tips before you hit the shop.

Babies aren ’t known for their neat and tidy habits, so a removable ,washable cover is must. Make sure it is soft too, for your baby’s comfort.

The crucial fixer that keeps your baby safe and in place , the harness ( seat belt ) should come with extra newborn padding and most importantly, it needs to be easy to adjust . Many seats now come with a single pull adjustments mechanism - ask when you’re shopping around.

Roll bar - Added protection for your baby if you’re involved in an accident.

Carry handle - Car seats for newborns ( upto 18 months ) that come with a carry handle are also known as infant carriers. They allow you to transport your baby to and fro from the car without removing her from the seat. If it is compatible , the infant carrier can be easily attached to the rest of your travel system.

Double check the seat is installed properly and hasn ’t slipped.

Never use your child’s car seat in a seat where there is an airbag fitted, such as the passenger seat of your car, in case of an accident.
