Grapefruit

Posted by Ivars R.

In looking through the many recommendations and comments, none mentioned grapefruit. Every morning when I get up, I will have a half a bottle of water with common vitamins, followed by a half of a pink Texas grapefruit and than a banana. To save time, I will cut off the two ends, slice it in half, cut out the core and than reduce it to four slices. Eat one half that morning and the other the next day. On occasion one or two grapefruits will turn up a bit sourer, than just sprinkle a bit of sugar and it will be very delicious. Oh yes, I will stop in at the local Starbucks and get my decaf coffee that will last me till late morning. Some mornings I will break the routine and will have oatmeal or two fried egg whites with one slice of white bread. Having practiced this ritual, I can assure you, that I have no need to eat till noon or 1 PM. On top of that my cholesterol is only 84 because I have found out that anything salty or to sweet will make me hungry causing to overeat. However, if you also drink enough water during the day, it will help cut down the amount of food you eat just because the tummy will be full. - Try it, you just may find it equally as satisfying and rewarding.

Hi Ivars, How you doing? I would just like to add to your information about grapefruit. Grapefruit is an excellent source of many nutrients and phytochemicals, for a healthy diet. Grapefruit is a good source of vitamin C,pectin fiber, and the pink and red hues contain the beneficial antioxidant lycopene. Studies have shown grapefruit helps lower cholesterol and there is evidence that the seeds have low levels of antioxidant properties.
That's great if a grapefruit and banana are working for you. It's good to eat at least a little something in the morning. I find my eating clusters later in the day, but in the morning a little goes a long way. Anyone else?
