How to Avoid Buying Junk Food at the Grocery Store

Posted by Nirmala N.

Health junkies we may be, but a trip to the grocery store can easily result in a shopping cart full of sweet and salty indulgences. So how to avoid the temptation to purchase junk? For one, try to spend the majority of your shopping time in the produce aisle, stocking up on tons of fresh fruit and veggies. Also try to choose low-fat dairy products, and make sure you read labels on all products so you limit saturated fat foods to no more than 15 percent of each item's overall calories. And instead of binging or pigging out, allow yourself one dessert a week--the reward mentality at the end of a hard five days at work always comes in handy.

Shop the perimeter.

Also remember the two P's. Produce and Protein. Organic junk food is still junk food, so don't be fooled. To keep it at it's simplest; don't buy anything in a box or package. Use common sense, eggs are in a package, but it's not a processed food.

ENJOY
