I know you can replace applesauce for oils. Can you use applesause to replace margarine? It's for cake icing

My son is allergic to margarine and specific cooking oils.  I'm using applesauce to replace the oil for the cake and needing to know what i could use to replace the margarine.  I was going to use coconut oil, but not sure how it would turn out?

L:  I believe it is worth trying utilizing applesauce to replace the fat in margarine.  You would like to have a product that is thicker, rather than watery.  So steaming the water out, and thickening the applesauce will make a better product.  After reducing substitute 1 cup for 1 cup.  Let me know how it works out.    Look for a very thick coconut milk for substitution, they are on the market.
