I've been doing too much lately. Period. No excuses. They're all good ones, but isn't that what we always think? That's how I can get to thinking, unless I make a conscious decision to STOP it. My mother called it "burning the candle at both ends."
In my macrobiotic studies at the Kushi Institute, one of my instructors frequently talked about this. Overdoing stresses our kidneys and causes those dark circles (that we hate) under our eyes. Being conscious of not overdoing is the hardest part of my macrobiotic lifestyle. Sometimes I just want to go, go, go! On the other hand, I don't like being sick either, so I have to find a balance. We all do.
Many of us don't think twice about cramming as many activities as possible into a day. If we're tired, we drink coffee or tea, or eat sugar and just push on. I know it well, that was my style. If I let myself, I could easily get back into that old habit.
My teacher, Lisa Silverman, has the best approach to life: "Take a deep breath, slowly exhale and relax ... ah." Slowing down is NOT a sign of weakness, it is a sign of strength.
I have decided to write my blog from Monday through Friday as I had originally intended. So, check out my recipe on Monday. Have a terrific weekend!
Take a deep breath, slowly exhale, and relax ... ah. Love, Meg
