PTP: Towel Tone Series 4, Balance

Posted Jun 24 2009 1:54pm
This installment of the towel tone series focuses on moves to improve balance, using the instability created by the towels. The next towel tone post will give you a few workout ideas of how to put together some of the moves in this and the three previous posts if you haven't done so already.

1. Airplane
Begin with one foot on folded towel, raise opposite leg up until thigh is parallel to floor. Pause here for a second.
Sweep your leg back and straight keeping your arms out to the side like an airplane. The shot is somewhat dark, but my back leg is sticking straight out behind me. Complete all reps on one leg, then switch sides.
2. Tree Pose
Place one foot on folded towel. Take your other foot and place it on your opposite inner thigh. If you have good enough balance place your arms straight overhead, otherwise keep your arms out to the side as pictured. Hold for as long as you can, then switch sides. Make sure to keep your abs nice and tight!

3. Sideways Reach
Place right foot on folded towel. Reach left leg straight and out to the side, with left hand on hip and reach right hand down toward the ground. Hold for as long as you can, then switch sides. Keep your obliques engaged to hold your upper leg still.
