When a Los Angeles local chirps, "Meet me at RFD!" you might be embarrassed to ask what the initials stand for. After all, the local said it like everyone already knows but when you looked it up, you can't find it. I'll let you in on a little secret - RFD stands for Real Food Daily. And yes, almost everyone already knows.
RFD is a vegan restaurant located at 414 N. La Cienega, over by the trendy Beverly Center. It's a couple blocks north, so if you've spent a day at the Bev Center and are ready for some vegan fare, get ready to take a short hike to get it. Or, if you're driving, you can valet at RFD or hit some of those meters on the side streets. Tip: try the meters first "cause you're going to have to save your pennies to afford any of the beverages at RFD.
Wait, they only serve beverages? No, absolutely not. They serve food. Organic vegan food. But, the beverages are where they make their money (in my opinion and I'm sure there's facts and figures to prove me wrong). A fresh squeezed apple/beet concoction is gonna run you almost $6. Tell you what, though - it's worth it. You'll be drinking something that, mere moments before was a fruit or a vegetable. It's like, you get all the goodness but you don't have to be bothered to chew.
As for the food, Taco the Town is one of my favorites. Made up of seitan, crunchy corn tortilla shells, lettuce, pico de gallo and tofu sour cream, this dish is a crowd pleaser. Everyone seems to love it. Plus, it's a lot of food but not unmanageable, by any means. You get two tacos and a plate full of beans and rice. So yummy, you'll never know it's vegan. And, it's not that pricey.
So, next time someone says, "RFD", raise your head high. You know what they're talking about. They're talking about vegan goodness that gives you that clean, fresh feeling (and all sorts of energy to go back to shopping!)
