She Says: Hunger and the Sedentary Lifestyle

Posted Nov 07 2009 10:01pm

Hunger is an interesting thing. In this “Healthy Living Blog” circle there is a lot of exercise going on. It might make one believe that eating is a privilege earned by exercise, but please remember, it is not. Sometimes I am famished and I cannot explain why. Literally not moving for a whole day does not exactly work up a hunger, but yet here it is. Sometimes, however, I am not hungry at all. Being the person that I am, I am still interested in eating. That’s where the problem comes in. Now more than ever it’s important that I really pay attention to what is going on with myself.

I thought of this when I saw the same commercial for Special K cereal for the millionth time this morning. The commercial features a woman on a diet delighted by the variety of Special K cereals available to her. The woman in this commercial is not just average weight, she is downright skinny. The first few times I saw it, I was unphased, but now every single thing about it annoys me. The message is that you are not thin enough and should really be on a diet, specifically, one involving bowls of nasty cereal. It’s annoying and incorrect.  I googled the issue and found a fewothersare as peeved as me about other similar Special K commercials.  One person even got a lame response from Kellogg about body image.

This morning I was hungry. I had oats, flax banana and a small amount of PB. This is an old picture because the one I took today was way too fuzzy to share. :(

My foot is progressing nicely I think.

This morning I am off to my GOTR Community Service Project. The girls planned a bake sale at the park where we practice. I am bummed that I won’t be able to run with the girls in their 5K next week, but I will still go to cheer them on.
