Snack Hearty!

A couple of months ago I share on Wellsphere that I enjoyed Trader Joe’s peanut butter-filled pretzels. I eat them almost every day around 5:00, about an hour or so before dinner. I just have a small handful, and they really cut my hunger, and I’ve thought for a while that I eat less dinner when I’ve indulged in this particular snack. Turns out I was right! If you eat some healthy fat at least 20 minutes before a meal, it can keep you from overeating. Nuts are highly recommended or even good bread dipped in olive oil will do it, but I swear by my pb-&-pretzels! Eating “good” fats stimulates the production of cholecystokinin (CCK), a hormone that lets your brain know when you’re full and then keeps you feeling that way by slowing down the emptying of your stomach. So you’ll eat your real meal for pleasure, stopping without stuffing yourself. Yay!
