A Calmer Mind, a Younger Appearance, and Job Promotions

Posted Jan 24 2009 5:33pm

The great comments inside the private blog just keep coming. I especially like this one because it points to a calmer mind when doing EF. Why is an answer I will give inside the private blog when our new site goes live. Real soon now. And we will have a forum. Incidentally, I am slowly adding subscribers on the new site so when it goes up you will be able to log in

I’m a 35 year old female who started EF last August at about 146 pounds, also after the Times article. I’d read Art’s site for three years, but always thought: No, that’s too extreme. Once I started, I was surprised how easy it was.

I dropped 6 pounds in the first week (for a total of 9 so far, with my body continuing to tighten even without a change on the scale). Immediately, I noticed that my ankles didn’t get puffy and swell anymore in the heat. I found myself standing up staighter without effort, and sitting upright in my chair at work. My skin looked different–bright, tight, and glowing. Without changing anything else, I suddenly had enormous amounts of stamina. I felt like a superhero–and decided sugar and flour were my kryptonite. Which made it easy to avoid them.

Perhaps most important to me, my mood changed significantly. I used to be prone to flashes of anger or sadness, and while I am generally a calm person, I would often lose my temper or my cool if things went wrong. On EF, I became a calmer, wiser, more responsive version of myself. Instead of panicking and reacting, I’m now able to coolly survey the facts and make a smart decision. I know without a doubt this has led to a series of promotions at work–my calm was taken as evidence of leadership.

Oh, and while I’ve always looked young for my age, I’m now told that I look younger than both my sisters–including one who is eight years younger than I am. In fact, I was carded for a drink recently and the waitress was genuinely surprised. “I hope I look that good at 35,” she said.
