Broccoli Time!

Posted Feb 02 2009 11:42pm

[Last night’s Dinner]

Mmm.  Broccoli.  I don’t know when I started to like it, but I remember for the longest time I wanted nothing to do with it.  Now I love the stuff.  Not only is it nice to look at, but it turns out it’s pretty good for you too.

Here’s what NutritionData.com says about broccoli:

“This food is very low in saturated fat and cholesterol. It is also a good source of protein, Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol), Thiamin, Riboflavin, Pantothenic Acid, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus and Selenium, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Vitamin B6, Folate, Potassium and Manganese.”

If that’s too hard to understand, let me clarify: Broccoli has lots of good stuff for our bodies.

Personally, I like broccoli steamed.  I just add a little bit of water in a pot, add the broccoli and cover the pot.  Let the water boil and steam up the broccoli.

It doesn’t take very long either.  It will turn a nice green color and get a little softer.  You can also add a little bit of salt and pepper if you like, but I’ve gotten to like it just straight up.

There’s probably tons of other ways to prepare broccoli so feel free to share how you like it.

Make today a broccoli day.
