Does eating cholesterol rich foods cause your cholesterol levels to go up or not?

Posted by a_humble_yogi

A friend of mine is a doctor and told me that eating cholesterol rich foods would not make my cholesterol levels go up.  I am naturally predisposed to high cholesterol and am very vigilant about what I eat and keeping my cholesterol down.  I also take Lipitor to help with this.  I have managed to keep my cholesterol levels down to an above average healthy level for the past 2 years.  I have minimized cholesterol rich foods and increase my fiber (from whole grains and vegetables) in my daily food intake.

I am very curious to find out if eating choleterol rich foods cause your cholesterol levels to go up or not and why.  I would also like to read some medical journal articles on this subject.

So my first question is:

1.  Does eating cholesterol rich foods cause your cholesterol levels to go up or not?

2.  Where can I find official medical journal information on this subject for free?
