I will start off by apologizing in advance for any typos...I am dealing with somoe MAJOR eye problems and this is the 1st day that I can somewhat see the computer screen.
ANYWAY...
Today was Thomas' activation of his left implant. I was a bit nervous because Thomas will NOT let me touch that side of his head. Whether I am trying to brush/comb his hair, look at his incision, etc, He will not let me near his left side.
So we were sitting in the room with Dr. M going over all the equipment(again) while Thomas played with his cars and puzzles. Everything was fine until I went to put the processor behind his ear. He flipped out. I got him calmed down and Dr. M tried...still the same reaction. So Dr. M rigs it so the coil sticks and the processor is kind of hanging behind his head. She tested everything with micorphones off and he did fine. She turned him on (with right processor on) an he did OK. We opted to not go with the dancing bunny in the box. We put his puffs in the big blue box and whenever Thomas turned to a sound a puff would roll out. He did excellent at that. It was time to go and we wrangled him and stuck the processor and coil on. Thomas did not like it but us leaving bothered him more so he ran after us. Dr. M gave him 2 stickers and we were out the door. About 2 steps later Thomas tore off his equipment, threw it on the ground and ran away from it. Jim picked it up and we put it back on. 2 steps later Thomas threw it off. We did this 4 more times while walking to the parking garage.
I am definitly going to need some suggestions on how to convince Thomas to wear his processor. I may have to go back to pinning it to his shirt and have nothing on his ear. For some reason his ear seems REALLY sensitive and he doesnt like anything touching it. I will give it a few days but honestly I can't handle battling him. If I wasnt so sick it may not be that bad...but it is really tough!!!
I will have another post up later this evening about Thomas' birthday party. It went really well and everyone had a good time.
