This is a very very incorrect.  Gentimicin and almost every medicine that ends in "icin" or "ycin" are proven to be able to cause hearing loss.  In fact in about 5% of the general population, gentimicin can cause complete deafness.  Gentimicin is not used to treat hearing loss.  Gentimicin is used to treat serious infections and those who recieve gentimicin should follow up with an audiologist for an Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) test to evaluate any negative impacts from the medicine.  In fact, there is no medicine that has been proven to "treat" hearing loss.
