Can you address the information below regarding the importance of taking statins when the Kif6 gene mutation is present?

Posted by chiphanes

I have atherosclerosis, a calcium score of over 400 on the heart CT scan, elevated LDL of 180 when not taking statins. Recently I found that my kif6 gene mutation is positive and I am told that unless I stay on high doses of statins that I am at an extremely high risk for MI or stroke. The problem is I do not tolerate the statins well and get severe muscle aches with exercise

I would like Dr Sears opinion on the significance of the Kif6 gene and his advice for me on minimizing my risk

I am a physician age 63, 6 feet tall and overweight at about 190. I am taking Crestor 10 daily, fish oil caps (about 1000 mg/d), and vitamins. I try to limit my fat intake but do not do a very good job at it.

I have just read "Enter the Zone". I would like more current references taking into consideration the recent information about Kif6, etc
