As Nata Clinic prepares to
become a site for dispensing ARV’s, the staff members are being trained
to enter all patients that have tested for HIV into the computer data
base. In order to keep accurate records, we must go back to 2003 (when
the clinic started testing for HIV) and enter all the patient’s names
and information. Since 2003, Nata Clinic has registered nearly 800 HIV
positive patients. It’s a sad reminder for us all how many people
have passed through our doors and how many are no longer with us. Many
of these patients waited until they were very sick to be tested and
were never able to recover. We continue to work to educate the
villagers to test early and avoid unnecessary complications. It’s
also disturbing to know that many of our villagers have yet to test
for HIV, so these figures do not give a complete picture of the real
numbers we are dealing with. Officials estimate our infection rate at
40%.
