Bio

Katherine Stone suffered postpartum obsessive compulsive disorder with the birth of her son in 2001. She is now an advocate for women with postpartum mood disorders, primarily through her blog Postpartum Progress, the most widely-read blog in the United States on these illnesses, which include postpartum depression, postpartum OCD and postpartum psychosis. She is also guest editor on the topic of postpartum depression at BlogHer (www.blogher.com), the world's top community for and guide to blogs by women. Stone was recently responsible for successfully hosting "Blog Day for the MOTHERS Act", an event bringing together female bloggers from across the U.S. to write about postpartum depression and urge their readers to call the Senate and ask them to pass the MOTHERS Act for more education, research and screening for postpartum mood disorders. She is a member of the board of directors of Postpartum Support International. She is also featured on Time Inc.'s Health.com site in the postpartum depression area of its Depression section. Stone's articles on PPD have appeared in such places as Newsweek magazine (July 7, 2004) and www.womenshealth.gov, a U.S. Department of Health & Human Services website (October 2005). She has appeared live on nationally syndicated "The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet" on Fox, as well as online at CNN.com, Yahoo! (http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/devlin/14706) and E! News Online (http://www.eonline.com/news/article/index.jsp?uuid=9fd68f75-27b0-4d63-a21a-5fb76bc8b17f). Postpartum Progress was named one of the top 10 depression blogs on the web by Psych Central in 2007. Prior to becoming a full time advocate and stay-at-home mom, Stone spent 7 years in marketing at The Coca-Cola Company, most recently as Director of Experiential Marketing. Her first blog, Decent Marketing, was named a "Best Business Blog: Women at Work" by Fast Company magazine. She lives in the Atlanta area with her husband, 6-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter. And no, I'm not the Katherine Stone that writes lots and lots of romance novels. That's not even her real name, by the way, so it really burns me up that she's listed first on Google searches. :-) If you're looking for help within your state, visit PSI's website at www.postpartum.net to get information on the coordinator in your area.
