Dialysis - Home vs Clinic

We are considering home dialysis for my mom.  We have been told by some people that the infection rate is much higher for home dialysis.  We live over an hour away from a clinic, so the home option seems like the better choice.  Any comments on the advantages/disadvantages of home dialysis would be appreciated.

When you say home dialysis, are you referring to home hemodialysis or Peritoneal dialysis? If you follow all the precautions, there is absolutely no reason for the chances of infection to be higher. Home dialysis is certainly the way to go if you are suited for it. You should check out http://homedialysiscentral.org.
