Hi folks, in Sept ‘08, ACOG published their new guideline on electronic fetal monitoring, this is a Palm PDA version for quick easy reference, ideal for students, residents, and attendings who need to review these things occasionally.
The 9/08 guideline was not much about recommendations for care, but rather a nice restatement of the definitions of EFM terms and concepts in a clear concise and precise way. They also introduce a new 3-tier overall assessment scheme which boils down to tracings being regarded as quite reassuring, quite ominous, and everything in between!
I am sure this scheme and these terms will appear in all kinds of future references, but until then, I have prepared this little reference so that the material can always be at your fingertips, especially for students and residents trying to remember exactly what constitutes a variable decel, a sinusoidal pattern, a category III tracing, etc. Nice that it aligns pretty well with ALSO, and I cite the comparability in the Palm program. Happy to receive feedback.
