We pull into the street, or at least try to. There are 3 fire engines blocking it. Another ambulance has pulled in front of us and an RRU is parked off to one side. There are no street lights on and no lights on in any of the houses. Everything is being illuminated by the various blue strobes and headlights of emergency vehicles
I decide to head to the RRU to try and find out what has happened. When I arrive there is lady in the back passenger seat, holding a young baby, both are ready bed. Mum has the added fashion accessory of a foil blanket, stood to one side is Dad. All looking fine and happily chatting away to the RRU driver. "Whats happened?" The RRU driver turns as if to see me for the first time. "Oh! Hello! Well there was a small electrical fire caused by some sort of circuit box in these lovely people's hallway, they had to pass the fire to get out the door. No evidence of any serious smoke inhalation or burns, just a bit shocked with it all, went with a bang by all accounts." I look up the street to try and work out which house it was but the whole street is crawling with fire personnel and curious members of the public. "So it was just a small fire in the one house?" "Yes" "So why the huge response? 3 fire engines? officers? police? Theres a Jacketsville motor arrived at the same time. Seems a bit overkill?" "Ha! Yeah! It got reported as an explosion and because the fire has caused the electrics for the whole block to go down and the fire service couldn't see what was happening when the first arrived one of them called a Major Incident!" ![]() All them please!
