Learn self-defense! Strengthen your body! Reduce stress! Clear your mind! We are part of Shotokan Karate of America (SKA), a nonprofit nation-wide organization founded in 1955 by Mr. Tsutomu Ohshima. Our practice is traditional, and is rooted in centuries-old Okinawan martial arts. Each class typically includes instruction in kihon (basic techniques), kata (set series of movements), and kumite(sparring). Through rigorous physical practice of realistic fighting techniques, we strive to learn our strengths and weaknesses and improve upon them, both within the practice itself and in other aspects of our lives. Our membership draws from throughout Stanford and the surrounding area, including students, professors, faculty, alumni, and off-campus professionals and community members. Beginners welcome - please wear clothes that are comfortable to move and workout in (no uniform is required).

This is a great way to train both the mind and body to bring out your best any difficult situation.  Stanford is lucky to have world-class instructors that people have been known to fly across the country to visit.  Don't miss the opportunity!

Strength and precision is what come to mind...
Yosemite by Kenna M. Jul 31 07 8:06am I remember waking up at Sunrise Camp in Yosemite with colorful oranges, reds, blues, greens and yellows gliding above as I looked through the tree tops. Although it was striking, the serene vision I will never forget -- not a sound -- just floating and whirling down to land close by an open field....
