Lyme, Connecticut. I believe Allen Steere, a rheumatologist, "first" discovered the disease in the United States after discarding all previous information found in other countries.
Hi Linsay...yes...that's where they discovered the disease but not necessarily the ticks. Supposedly Lyme disease has been here sequestered in the Northeast woods for years and years...however, these Lyme ticks were not here in CT when I was a child. We only saw dog ticks. I heard that Ixodes scapularis was first found or studied on Naushon Island which is owned by the Forbes who dealt in the opium Trade with China. Could they have transported here in that manner , I wonder.
Oh, that's interesting. Lyme is certainly verbose on the lineage front. It seems almost impossible to document, but maybe there is information out there.

No one seems to be curious about where and when the lyme tick was first found in the U.S. I am hoping that someone reading this will know the answer.
