With all the steroid allegations in sports, it’s not often enough that celebrities are asked or tested for performance enhancing drugs. What performance would celebrities be enhancing? Does it matter? If you want to be critical of athletes enhancing their bodies to do their jobs then why can’t we be critical of celebrities? Because they are not competing? They are sometimes competing for a role in a movie or television show, right? If their physical appearance gives them an advantage because they look more fit and eye appealing to the audience, is that not performance enhancing? If it makes them perform better for their role as an action hero by putting them in better physical fitness for the role, is that not performance enhancing? What I’m saying is that I think it’s a double standard. If we want to test athletes such as professional sports players and pro-wrestlers, why can’t we test and enforce a steroid policy for professional or even amateur actors? Sure steroids can’t make you act better, but they can’t make you hit a baseball in just the right spot to knock it out of the park either.
Arnold Schwarzenegger admitted to using steroids during his competitive bodybuilding days and probably used them in his numerous rolls to maintain his body. Sylvester Stalone got caught trying to smuggle steroids back in to the country and we all know Dolph Lungrenhad to be on steroids during his roll as the Russian boxer in Rocky 4, even though he was only portrayed as receiving juice injections in the movie.
So how many other celebrities are on “The Juice”? It’s obvious that a lot of pro-wrestlers use or have used in the past and it’s more than obvious that 99% of the bodybuilders you see in Magazines have used steroids. Hell, even porn stars use them. What makes it different? What makes it right to put sports stars in the spot-light when it’s more than just a pro-sports problem?
I could start naming a bunch of celebrities that I think might “Juice” a little bit. I’ll name a couple of them right now and state my reasons why I think they may be using something a little more powerful than protein shakes.
Nelly or Cornell Haynes Jr.: Why do I think he’s juicing? Because he got big quick. At his age you just don’t go through a growth phase and get as big as he did in a short amount of time. But keep reading before you get too upset.
Mark Wahlberg: Again whit his roles in movies, he has gone up and down in size for a few of his roles such as Vince Papale in Invincible. He blew up for that roll but shrunk back down for roles afterwards. He’s always been in good shape though.
Now I could be wrong. I could be way off. These two may have hired a good personal trainer and dietitians to aid them in their rapid transformations. As someone that has a hard time finding the time to work out long and hard and could never afford a personal trainer or someone to help with a strict diet, it’s easy for me to call out someone that does have the means and is in much better shape than I am. I’m not accusing them of using, I’m just saying that there is always a possibility. There is always the possibility that they train hard and eat right, too. So are they on “The Juice”? You tell me, because I really don’t know. I’m just stating an speculation by observation.
Going back to the main subject matter of the post, have we created a double standard? It’s easy to point fingers at the sports stars when they are performing better than others and when the evidence is there. How much evidence is out there, being swept under the carpet and kept “Hush-Hush” for celebrities using PED’s? How many use HGH to slow their aging process to add longevity to their careers like sports athletes do? How many use anabolic steroids to get big quick for an upcoming role?
Can we re-write the rules and make it illegal for actors to use performance enhancing drugs and give them suspensions and jail time if they use or lie about it? Would the Screen-Actors Guild be willing to abide? How about the unions? It’s highly unlikely that actors will ever be investigated for “Juicing”or Congress will get involved, but I still feel that we should be straight across the board as we are with other illegal substances. We shouldn’t make any exceptions…for ANYONE.
Do you think there is a double standard and who do you think might be on “The Juice”?
