The doctor that did my hernia surgery, a clinic doctor, and a urologist said it was nothing to worry about that it would hurt more to drain fluid than it was hurting the way it was. Now its been a few years and its getting bigger and harder all of a sudden.

The most common cause of swollen scrotum is called epididymitis. This swelling is usually caused by a secondary bacterial infection that is brought about by a variety of underlying conditions.

Some cases of epididymitis are characterised by swelling even when there is no infection. Urinary tract infections are the most common cause. The bacteria in the urethra back-track through the urinary and reproductive structures to the epididymis. It can also be caused by genito-urinary surgery, including prostatectomy, urinary catheterization, congenital kidney, hernia surgery and bladder problems, and STDs, like gonorrhoea and chlamydia
