Link Love Week: Non-Combat Related Injuries And U.S. Soldiers

Posted Feb 10 2009 11:02am

pubmilpics016066-Soldier-in-a-makes Marijke over at Help My Hurt wrote a post about U.S. Soldiers and Orthopedic injuries they sustain from having to carry too much equipment. I can totally relate because there was many times in my military days that I or other sustained either major or minor injuries due to this problem.

She mentions the weight of body armor, the “Ruck sack” ammunitions, etc. weighing the soldiers down and the weigh can add up quickly. You’re expected to be able to carry a 40 pound Ruck while wearing a flack vest or body armor, Load Bearing Equipment or “Web Gear and you weapon. Your weapon, depending on the type can weigh anywhere from 8 to 40 pounds. You may have a team carry of a crew served weapon, which is never easy. Of course the infantry guys usually get the worst of it and often their ruck sacks alone might weigh well over 80 pounds.

Being injured during a time of war might put you on a non-deployable status. The problem here is that people want to be non-deployable. I’m not finger-pointing here but I knew many female soldiers that suddenly got pregnant when deployment time rolled around. That’s a pretty irresponsible thing to do if you ask me. So if you can not get pregnant what are you to do? Fake an injury! Not a new concept, but it puts a strain on medical personal and wastes time. When a soldier with a legitimate injury comes in he often gets treated as if he is malingering and often does not get the treatment he deserves and needs. If you want to avoid combat for whatever reason, whether it be that you’re scared or you don’t believe in the cause, then you need to get out of the military and stop wasting their time and money. They waste enough money on their own.
