Most MD's suggest a gradual tapering off with lowering dosages to help get off HRT. She should tell her MD or nurse practiioner that she wants to discontinue it and ask him/her to taper the dosage.
As for withdrawal, if she has symptoms after tapering down, such as night sweats, hot flashes, or emotional symptoms; these usually decrease with time. If not, there are a number of helpful aids to symptom relief we can suggest depending on the actual symptoms. For more info, see our blogsite, Menopause Goddess Blog or ask more specific questions here at Wellsphere. Tell her good luck, keep us posted, and yes, 30 years is a heck of a long time to be on HRT!

My grandmother has been taking premarin for about 30 years [!!!!]. She wants to stop taking it, but is worried about severe withdrawl symptoms. Any suggestions for helping her get off of this medication?
