Is there such a thing as a headache virus?

My son has had a low-grade fever for 4 days with headaches and slight sore throat.  Parents at school say their kids have the same symptoms.  He has has strep throat in Oct. and has had 2 sets of blood tests that were negative for Lyme, mono, etc.  Pediatrician says it's viral, but I'm concerned that he doesn't know what's wrong, and is just hoping my son will get better without further treatment.
