Yay, San Francisco! I thought it would rank above Washington, DC, but hey, at least it's up there. :)
There is a good spread of living well across the US
Well, having lived in both Seattle and Los Angeles I can actually say with a fair amount of certainty that people in Los Angeles are generally healthier and happier than people in Seattle. Don't get me wrong - Seattle is a great place. But the lack of sunlight leads to a lot of depression up there. Also, people are a bit less fit just from what I saw in terms of body weight. Los Angeles always gets a bad rap but Southern California (including San Diego and the OC) is by far one of the healthiest places to live. That's because with the weather, we are out and about more. I swear people in LA age 10 years slower than the rest of the country does, and that's WITHOUT the plastic surgery.
Even small towns have benefit of tools for healthy living. They normally have a farmers market and many local grocery stores purchase local produce. Most of them have a gym and there are tons of outdoor activities available like hiking, biking, horseback riding, canoeing and tons of other things. So for all you folks out there in small towns, don't think you have an excuse just because you aren't on the list.
