Home Sweet Home

10:10 p.m.

Home sweet home, with our children, Smokey and Coco. And Roy. And Abdul.

Unfortunately, I had no time to write during the last three days, as we were subject to the precision of my father-in-laws plans. For our vacation. Which did not include such things as rest, or relaxation, or sightseeing, or dining out, or . . . well, vacationing.

During those times wherein he was unable to grace us with his presence, he left his wife to the task. In short, she slept the nights in our room.

We met during the days at least 52 aunts (I think), 132 uncles, and 254 grandparents.

Plus we went to a funeral. No vacation is the same without one.

Luckily it was not I who passed away. But it was close, very close.

Lastly, my father-in-law accused me of nicking his car. Who else could it have been? The safety and prudence of my driving just seemed suspicious, I guess.

One thing sticks in my mind as worth mentioning before I close for the night, which is this: It seems clear that Indonesians have many more shoes than they have feet. I arrive at this conclusion simply by a cursory counting of the shoes by the door as opposed to the number of people within the house.

Aneh sekali, as they would say in the language--Very strange indeed.
