Enough of the mushy stuff. The Olympics are almost here! Ever since I can remember, I've loved the thrill and the excitement of an entire nation rooting for the same team, for once... And just imagine how bad I've gotten in the past few years with a husband whose job is to get the nation excited for just that! This is one of the very few times I schedule things around what's on TV...
It's sort of sad, in a way, that the Games seem less important now than they used to be. When I first thought about that, I thought it was maybe a result of getting older, busier, and just not paying as much attention to the excitement, not keying into it like I used to. But now I think it's much more a factor of the world being busier, global events being of sufficient scale to overshadow a biennial amateur athletic festival. And on a sadder note, as pointed out by my husband, we just aren't a people, anymore, that sits down together in front of the TV to watch the Games, we've gotten too busy and too detached from that tradition, it's gone the way of the family sit-down dinner. Well, that's gonna change at my house starting this weekend. And I hope the same is true at your house. Go USA!
