Book Review: Taking Care of Your “Girls” A Breast Health Guide for Girls, Teens and In-Betweens by Marisa C. Weiss, M.D. and Isa

Posted Apr 13 2009 11:12pm

This book is based on a survey of three thousand plus girls and their Moms and it covers the subject of Breasts, or “Girls” as they refer to them! It is a wonderful book! I wish I had this book when my two daughters were young. I can give it to my 16 year old granddaughter though and I know she will not only get a kick and a giggle out of it but will walk away with valuable information she may not retain from school or even with talks from myself or her mother. Teen girls never really want to hear about this stuff from us, but the way the book is written it’s like she is sitting down with a bunch of her closest friends and they are chatting about everything. It covers a lot of information and does it in a humorous girly way that teens can relate to. I found myself laughing and just amazed at what they cover! Some of the topics include: Knowing your girls inside and out, Self image and teasing, normal breast changes, what’s that? Noticing, feeling and checking for breast changes, and so on. They have wonderful illustrations and little side bar tidbits that are so informative, yet they are brilliant in how they pass this information on. I have this book to share with my granddaughter, and will recommend to every mother or grandmother, aunt, girlfriend, that this is something you will want to share!!! I really hope that the mother and daughter team will do more books for girls to share, they did it very well!!! I loved this book.
