Taco Boy and my foodie goodness.

Posted May 10 2009 10:31pm

We are sitting here watching The Players Cup so then afterwards we can have dinner. We were going to make a little turkey but unfortunately we couldn’t find a fresh one so we decided that we are going to make better wet burritos than Taco Boy (it’s a Michigan thing). It’s soooo tasty! Man now that I’m reminiscing about home and the dives I used to eat in. Beltline Bar used to be sooo tasty too with their wet burritos but when I went there a few years ago with my girlfriend, Beltline Bar sucked butt. I mean you wait for at least an hour and the burritos were good but the quality has gone down every time I go back.

I grew up on Ole Taco and Taco Boy and Ole went out many years ago (thank God, total grease factory) but I lived at Taco Boy on the weekends. I would go there with my mom after roller skating at Plainfield Skating Center (now torn down) and I would seriously eat 7 tacos and grab a burrito for the next day so I could eat it cold. No I wasn’t overweight in fact I was under weight for many years. But to me that still is the best place for tacos and wet burritos. I would eat about 14 tacos and 2 burritos a weekend for about 8 years, mmmmmmm, good.

One place that I also miss from home is Westside Deli on Plainfield. They went out many years ago too but that was a tasty place to eat. Another favorite place I will frequent when I go home will be Yesterdog in Eastown. I could eat three Ultra Dogs. That’s a DE-licious hot dog right there! When I was a kid we would then go to this cool old school ice cream shop there and eat Superman ice cream (which is my man’s FAVORITE ice cream next to Mackinac Island Fudge Ice Cream). Mine is actually at Meijer and it’s Peanut Butter Fudge ice cream. Sometimes you can find it out here at Baskin Robbins.

Oooh, another few places that I miss that are also out of business are Hot N’ Now, Get Em’ n Go and Red Lion which I just found out is still in business, Mr. Fables and one other one. Those were the greasy holes that so tasted the best! I’m sure I couldn’t eat them now even if they were in business but I would risk it once a month just to go to one of those places. Wow I really went off from where I meant but wow this is so much fun!

When we lived in St. Louis (really Florissant) we would go to the Cactus Moon (line dance bar) and Sunday’s were family nights and had this awesome buffet. They are now gone. I loved this greek place in Union Station down there, Iggy’s Frozen yogurt and the Hawaiian shaved Ice place near where the Cactus Moon was . We would hit Steak N’ Shake every now and then (Grand Rapids, Columbus, St. Louis). I loved St. Louis and Laclede’s Landing by the Arch. So much fun stuff to do in the summer there!

Columbus, OMG to me I was in heaven there!!! My most favorite place there was Columbus Fish Market, Bravi, CV Wrappers, Hoggies, Donatos, Ted’s Montana Grill and the best cookies were always Cheryl & Co. There were many places we ate there but those are the places we would eat the most. Hoggies has onion rings almost like Fables, mmmmmm. It was so fun when we lived there, we would take “N” to the Columbus zoo a lot when he was little.

I love food can you tell? Can you also tell I’m hungry? This is so much fun talking about the places I used to eat out at. This is just food, just wait until I tell you about places I would go to just to hang out. Man, I have such a bad addiction but ohhh so good and fun.
