Wanna Be My Valentine?

Posted Feb 13 2009 5:21pm
Why do single people get all bent out of shape about Valentine's Day? People need to stop buying into the insanity that this day has to be all about romantic love. Flowers, cards, fancy dinners. Trite, boring, blah.

Now I don't mean to come across like Bitter Single Girl. You're with someone you love? Fantastic! But if you're not, then don't feel like you're a loser because you don't fit into the cookie cutter mold of what Retail World is telling you you're suppose to want.

I'm Buddhist. We have virtually no holidays. So I absorb random holidays from other people's religions and make it work for me...like Rosh Hashanah and Christmas. Same goes for Valentine's Day...(and yes, I'm aware that's not a religious holiday, work with me people.)

Valentine's Day is about being with people you love so I invited two ladies I love to share the day with me and my Peanut. I'm going to make a big Greek dinner (no particular reason why Greek food other than our mutual love of moussaka). Picked up some wine today. They're going to bring me flowers.

Anyone out there bellyaching about being alone this Saturday, remember, you're not alone. You're surrounded by people that love you. If not kids, then certainly friends or family. Use this holiday to remind them of why they're special to you.

I'd love to hear what you'll be doing...
