We are excited to announce that we are adding a new category -- Books to Bark About! Look out Oprah, there's a new book club in town :-). To kick it off we have InDognito, A Book of Canines in Costumes! Five lucky Houston Dog Blog readers will win a free copy! Details are listed below.
Developed by photographer Karen Ngo, the book is a visual masterpiece of our favorite breeds dressed in some of the most unique and detailed costumes. From the cover shot on you will be amused, captivated and inspired. Images of a French Bulldog in a busy bee suit, a Cavalier King Charles spaniel in Asian attire and a Chihuahua as a mouse are just a few entertaining examples. I enjoyed the quotes scattered throughout, such as the quote by George Carlin, "The caterpillar does all the work, but the butterfly gets all the publicity." Accompanying the quote -- an youthful Yorkie donning butterfly wings and antennae. Following are a few more of the quotes I liked, each one joined by a related costumed canine!
"Clothes make a statement. Costumes tell a story." -- Mason Cooley (Chihuahua in a matador costume)
"Everything you can imagine is real." -- Pablo Picasso (Dachshund as an artistic genius)
"He who finds a friend, finds a treasure." -- Italian Proverb (Bulldog in a pirate costume)
"When in doubt, wear red." -- Bill Blass (Beagle in a tomato costume, pictured above)
"If you can talk, you can sing. If you can walk, you can dance." -- African Proverb (Pug in a ballerina costume)
On each page Ngo captures the pup's personality in a way that only a dog lover could truly understand. Hailing from New York, she is no stranger to dogs in clothes and muses in the book that Halloween for dogs lasts not just one day, but the whole month of October. The creativity dog owners use when costuming their dogs inspired her to use her fashion photography background to create this book to bark about! Note to Ms. Ngo...Isabella is always free to pose :-)!
InDognito is a must for all dog lovers! Stick it on the coffee table for a conversation starter or buy one as the perfect holiday gift!
