Your dog could be showing the results of some type of trauma to his leg--either a bruise from being bumped or a sprain/strain from being injured. Sometimes the soreness from these events can be bad enough to make them limp but not bad enough to make them wince when you feel all over the leg. If that were all this is, you would expect to see improvement every day--assuming you are keeping him well-confined and not running.
The other consideration here, due to his young age, is that he might be showing a developmental problem involving a bone or joint in his leg. For this to be resolved, youwil need to have him examined and possibly X-rayed.

I'm glad you were able to get a decent response for your dog. Hopefully, you didn't go along with the suggestion from msiness to try vitamins and glucosamine...that might be applicable in a geriatric dog, but NOT for a 1-year old Basset hound.

My dog a year old Basset Hound, started to limp about 2 days ago. He does not show any signs of discomfort, and lets you touch his foot. I have checked his paw and toes, and there are no rocks stuck in there. I have also pushed down on his hips, and legs, and nothing. He does not flinch at all. His leg is not swollen, but he has been limping. Yesterday he put more pressure on his leg than the day before, and was even running some, and today he's back to limping. I have been giving him canine aspirin, 120 mgs once a day after he eats. I'm not sure what is wrong with him, and xrays are very expensive. He shows no indication of discomfort at all. Like I said I've pulled on all his toes, pulled on his legs. He puts some pressure on his foot, just not as much as yesterday (I think the running may have overdone it). He also lays on his leg, and has had normal bowel movements. What could be wrong with him?
