Male maturity

Posted by RodS

I have two male German Shorthaired Pointer pups that are four and a half months old, I also have a female dod that is in season(heat). Are the pups old enough to breed? I don't want this to happen so I need to know how much to worry about.

Puppy puberty can hit from 4 months of age. Just depends on the individual dog, if  it will mate at that age -not normally.

However, they are usually already be producing sperm by that age.   This does not mean they will know what they are doing and actually be able to penetrate the female in heat.  Personally,  I would surely not let them run together un-supervised.

I'm pretty certain that is too young for breeding.
