Movies I Watched: October 2009

Movies are rated on a scale of 1 to 10

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
1969

I didn't hate this movie, but I didn't particularly like it either. I was bored and had trouble concentrating on the movie and paying attention in general. Maybe I missed the really good parts. I don't know. I gave this movie 4 stars because I could see how some people would like this movie, but it just wasn't my thing. (This was my movie for 1969. This movie was also on the AFI's America's Greatest Movies list)

The Return of the Living Dead
1985

I am a big zombie movie fan and this has now become one of my favorites. Love the eighties hair, clothes and dialogue. They said "Rad" twice in the first 4 minutes. That is awesome. Even the movies take on zombies was new to me and actually kind of made sense. I gave this movie 8 stars because dude, the zombies talk and that is both spectacular and creepy at the same exact time. (This was my movie for 1985)

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
1986

I had heard rumor that this was one of the most disturbing movies ever made. While I didn't find it comfortable to watch, especially towards the end, I did find it kind of predictable. I gave this movie 5 stars because I totally knew what was going to happen way before I should have. (This was my movie for 1986)

1997

I didn't exactly love this movie, but damn did I jump. I have a small fear of bugs. I apparently have a humongous fear of huge bugs that want to eat you. I believe I spent about half the movie chanting "damn bug movie" over and over again. I gave this movie 7 stars because I didn't really enjoy the movie but I was legitimately creeped out which is something that doesn't happen very often anymore. (This was my movie for 1997)

The Birds
1963

I really enjoyed this movie, but not for exactly the right reasons. Don't get me wrong, I liked the story line. I just liked openly mocking the movie more. Every single female character in this movie is really nothing more than a raving lunatic. Everyone except for the 11 year old girl. And seriously, why does everyone seem to want to go to where the birds are attacking? Plus, the first dead guy - that was way more graphic than I thought it would be. I gave this movie 8 stars because it was a entertaining movie that was unintentionally funny in the best way. (This was my movie for 1963)

1953

Everything about this movie was average. Vincent Price was good, as he is in all of his movies, but nothing about this movie really stood out. Perhaps it was good in its day, but now it's just ordinary and doesn't really stand the test of time. I gave this movie 5 stars because, sadly, I enjoyed the 2005 remake with Paris Hilton much better. (This was my movie for 1953)

1981

I don't think I like werewolf movies very much. Maybe that's why I found this movie slightly below average. There was a lot of build up in this movie. It wasn't suspenseful. It just took it's time getting around to the horror part of the movie. I have this movie 4 stars because the carnage at the end of the movie did not make up for the boredom at the beginning. (This was my movie for 1981)

1984

I usually enjoy B-Movie horror, but I just couldn't get into this. It was vaguely entertaining but wasn't anything overtly special. Not bored, but not enthralled. I gave this movie 5 stars because it was your merely average, everyday horror movie. (This was my movie for 1984)

House on Haunted Hill
1959

The movie was good but not spectacular. Was probably really fantastic in it's time, but the lack of scares and gore added to the dull black and white made the movie only slightly better than average. I gave this move 6 stars because it Vincent Price's eerie presence did its best to make up for the film being so dated. (This was my movie for 1959)

1988

I have no idea why I keep watching Freddy Kruger movies. I liked the first one slightly, but I've disliked each sequel more that the previous one. I guess I just keep hoping they'll get better. I'll watch the 2010 remake of the original even though I'm quite sure it'll suck. I gave this movie 3 stars because while it was kind of awful, it was still better than a lot of horror movies I've seen. (This was my movie for 1988)

2003

This movie was decent, but not at all what I was expecting. I think I would have enjoyed it more if instead of claiming it was based on the novel by Michael Crichton it stated it was vaguely reminiscent of the novel. So many things were changed I couldn't keep track of them. Either follow the novel (at least the major plot points) or just write an entirely new movie and don't pretend it's based on a book. Without comparing it to the novel, the movie itself was good. It focused more on the time spent in the past and completely glossed over the details of how the time travel itself was brought about. I gave this movie 5 stars because having read the book, I knew it could have been so much better. (This was my movie for 2003)

2001

Oh my lord, this was awful. There were vampires and priests with mohawks. It all started out fine. Then there was Jesus and his makeover. Mary showed up and they killed some vampires. Finally some girls made out. It was strange and not in an entertaining way. I gave this movie one star because I my only other option was to give it negative stars and that seemed a little bit like overkill. (This was my movie for 2001)

1972

I had heard that this movie was the scariest, most disturbing movie of all time. I can believe that was true in 1972. The concepts in this movie were disturbing, but I've become so desensitized to movie creepiness that it barely effected me. I gave this movie 5 stars for based solely on the method the mom chose to kill Weasel. Awesometastic. (This was my movie for 1972)

1983

This was one of those movies where I was constantly thinking "what the hell?" I didn't like it but, I didn't dislike it. I didn't understand it, but I wasn't confused by it. It was just strange. I gave this movie 5 stars because I am obviously completely baffled by this movie and I have no clue if that is a good or bad thing. (This was my movie for 1983)
