Th cavalier attitude i see towards the feelings and needs of children is hurting at this moment at a level approaching that i felt as a child myself. It’s not that i didn’t have good parents - it was the general attitude of society in general that outraged me. I promised myself then that i would stand up for children when i was older. That promise seems to have emerged recently and is making me unpopular with a few adults.
Well so be it - the children may not seem the winning side now - but they have time on their side..sorry to be so plain about it.
When we hurt our children or override their feelings or treat them with disrespect now we only build up trouble for the future - and they can hate us later.
It seems children are expected to be grateful that they are not being blown up, shot at, forced to work down mines or beaten. But they are not causing these wars or the economic system. And if they mention the injustices, or another adult does on their behalf, then they are rebuffed with examples of children in war torn countries or child abuse in the past. To add insult to injury children are taught in schools (where they are forced to attend without payment - what adult would accept that except a prisoner) about children of the past who were forced to work for a pittance.
In a way, in the state we humans are in, none of us are quite in the right state of mind to care for a child - and to a large degree that’s not our fault. But at least let’s acknowledge this state of affairs and aspire and work towards something mroe appropriate.
It was good to see the calf being born yesterday - something so beautiful - the sense of revernce in the air - it was just Bertie, Lizzy, me and Lawrence who works there on a Sunday in terms of human turn out and we are all love the tranquility of nature so the atmosphere was heavenly.
