I'm the type of dude who buys new underwear and socks
only when too many holes make it impossible to, um, properly contain what the garments are meant to contain (gosh, and I'm an extra-super petite at Victoria's Secret).
So, it's no surprise that I finally grew a brain this week when it comes to running shoes.
For the past few weeks, pain has been flaring up on the inside of my left knee during long runs (especially the downhills), and my legs have felt unusually weary.
Well, duh, dude: You needed
new shoes.
Since Twin Peaks on Feb. 4, I have been running in street shoes that are in OK shape -- actually, they are pretty worn down.
Today, I ran 7+ miles in Whiting Ranch in brand-new shoes, and my legs felt great! What a difference.
I am a shoe slut: I sample them all, and forget the names.
My new shoes, recommended by Scott White at
Fleet Feet, are Adidas Supernovas (I had to think hard to remember the name, which I soon will forget). They are cushy and feel just right.
It's amazing how something so basic as proper shoes has pretty much managed to escape my attention.
Then again, I guess I'm pretty stupid -- but stupid helps, sometimes, when you're an ultrarunner.
