calf pain from running downhill

Posted by bacoyne

This has happened a couple times. I run down hills, then it's like my calves just knot up. It's really painful and I limp around for a few days. It only affects walking/running though. I can cycle easily, and swim too. Just can't run without feeling this "knotted" feeling in my calves.

Running downhill is harder on your legs than running up hill. Try running up hill and walking downhill. If this eliminates the pain, good. Then, later, try jogging slower down the hill than you ran up the hill. Your body needs more time to adjust to the stress of downhill running. Also, be sure you stretch before and after you run. Here are the ones I do.
