Getting my 'Old Goats' on

Posted Mar 27 2009 10:55am
Am totally pumped about running in the tough Old Goats 50-Miler on Saturday. It is an intimidating race (12,000 feet of uphill climbing) but I know every inch of the course and love the trails, notable Holy Jim and Upper Holy Jim.

Am especially thrilled for Lexie (Alexa), who will be running the 50-miler as preparation for her first 100-miler, in San Diego, in June. I am coaching her for her century run and will be pacing her from mile 70 on.

With Lexie, at the start of the Santiago Truck Trail.

Lexie has come very far since we met nearly two years ago, and at the rare young age of 21 ("rare" for ultrarunners) she shows amazing talent and drive. I also will be thrilled to see my friends Linda, Molly and Lisa running their first 50-miler at Old Goats. Go girls!

No matter how everyone does, many of my friends will be running and volunteering in this Steve and Annie Harvey production. No matter what, it will be great to spend the day with some of the coolest people on the planet.

As for me, it's all about the fun. I don't care how I do; I just will be thrilled to be out there.
